CheerNo Deuil Mortifera

November 21, 2009 Leave a comment

If the last release from CheerNo suffered from over exuberance, some might find this current collection, Deuil a bit dour. For me, I found it beautiful and elegant and all of the things that I loved about CheerNo when I first discovered them as a SLewb.

I loved the gorgeous big shouldered suits that evoked my endless Bowie love, but it was the Mortifera that I was most drawn to with its high drama black gauze that wraps over the face and slings over the hips. It is theatrical and not something that most guys would probably be comfortable wearing all together. That said, the gauze Marilyn Manson shirt and jeans that it comes with are plenty to make any goth purr.

I paired the top of Mortifera with a pair of my own black satin pants, as I didn’t really like it as much with the jeans, though I do think the jeans would be more appealing to most guys. Fortunately, all of the pieces are such that you can mix and mingle to taste. I pulled it together with my favorite pair of Sn@tch cowboy boots.

Side B

August 23, 2009 1 comment

Saturday night Theodore and I participated in the A Side – B Side at Mixtape. He spun punk on the A Side and I spun funk and hip hop on the B Side. One club, two djs. It was great watching all of the cool people desperately to hopping between the two dancefloors trying to decide if they wanted to hear David Bowie or Marvin Gaye. Like Sophie’s choice with less Nazis and better music. Seriously fun. We’re doing it again next week only instead of funk, I’m doing chillout lounge, and Theodore is doing garage rock. Though, as always, we may well change our minds as the week progresses.

What follows is a set list from last night and the recipe for my funkadelic glam look. Read more…

For those of you who have been living under a rock, Draco and I DJed the GRAND REOPENING of MIXTAPE last night. It was absolutely kickass… jam packed with wonderful people from 8pm until after D & I went to bed. We played two hours of the best in funk (D’s set) and punk (all mine), zombie love was extolled, and Kasabian Beck was his usual unpredictable self. This is a regular gig for D & I… We’ll be knocking out tunes this coming Saturday night 8-10pm SLT, and trust me, you want to be there.

If you missed it, I’m sharing my playlist. And, to provide the fashion component of NachtMusikFashion, I’m sharing a look geared towards listening to these tunes alone in your room with your record player and headphones.

Playing Hookie

It’s been such a long week in so many ways. I feel like I’ve aged a decade. Fortunately, I don’t look like I have aged a day in the pixelverse and unlike real life where it’s been over 100 for as long as I can remember, it is perfectly cool and prime time to skip some stones and enjoy the beauty of the great outdoors.

As previously noted, NachtMusik is taking part in the Skipping Stones hunt, which has been an enjoyable diversion. I love exploring new sims, new designers, old favorites with new things. Of course, me being the contrary child that I am, I could not simply blog hunt items. Instead, I mixed it up a bit with old favorites and some new and the Chanimations dock that made me happy today when I put it out on my homestead in Caledon.

The hair was a freebie from HairFair09 that I’ve been enjoying with a variety of outfits. I never thought I’d get into the hairband thing, but I’m a convert with the Maitreya Apple II – Ash Blond. I added the hair stick and necklace from a lucky chair find [mixxES]Feather accesary set(Lucky Chair). The shirt, *Thimbles* I ❤ Plaid – Larry, was not free, but wasn't particularly pricey either. Same with the Bracelet Turquoise Power beads that brought out the blue in the feather accessories.

The pants are from the Skipping Stones Hunt – BALACLAVA!! outfit, which I love in its entirety, but I don’t want to look too out of the box, so I mix things up a little. Almost finally are my D2TK Beach Bums Mens flip-flops. I’m a big advocate of men’s sandals. They’re cool, comfortable, and as long as you keep your toes maintained, you should give it a try.

Shape, eyes and skin haven’t really changed in a while. What can I say? I like looking like me. Added to this outfit is a gorgeous ring that Theodore bought me. We’ve been married/partnered since before we came here, but we hadn’t had a wedding ring that we always wore. Now we do. I’m so excited about it. I know it’s probably silly, but it makes me smile each time I think about it and him and how happy I am to have someone special to share my life and slife with.

Look of the Day 7/15/09

In general, SL boys appear to be afraid of color. Me? Never. Color is a great way to express yourself, your mood, and to really stand out from a crowd. In this look, I draw from two of my favorite colors: green and violet.

Don’t be afraid of texture, of being bold. It’s really a great way to stand out and looks very fresh this summer. The trend is hot, but you’ll look cool.

supersmexy hair from booN

This whole outfit is great but what really makes it is the smexy TOM245 hair from booN (shown in chocolate). It’s maybe the best 200L I’ve spent lately. The messy strands and volume and sort of spiky bits are so couture it kills me. I feel like I just stepped out of a Vogue or W editorial. Worn with my amazingly cool hair is this great END knit hoodie in green, Muism‘s Stripe Deep V Tee in black on black, Naith Smit‘s Rock’n’Rolla Chain necklace, a.C‘s labret double #7 and Venus Spring skin in tan, Zanzo‘s Diyu eyes in Youming (the first eyes in a long time I’ve worn besides Poetic Colors), the WMD Wannabe jeans (some of my favorites of all time), and Zero Number‘s Wo boots. Poses are by Long Awkward Pose and ANA_mations.

Also, I recently won a KMADD City contest for a comment I made promoting them (go there and shop!) and received very cool free hair fatpacks as a prize, so I’ll be blogging those soon too. Yay free hair!

the androgynous hippie look (or something)

Zanzo‘s new Persian sheer top in this beautiful canary yellow inspired me to put together a sort of flower child look with this new (from Hair Fair) “messy hair” from eXceSs and these new (lots of new this time) Outsider jeans from WMD. The detailing on these is amazing and really makes them worth the 249L. I absolutely love them. My skin is Ander in oeste from Imagen. The eyes are gold tourmaline from Poetic Colors. My necklace is the abalone shell choker from Dionysia Designs and was a DSN freebie, and my bracelet and ring are from Mhaijik Things (guillame pour homme)… the 3 block ocean blue cord bracelet and the kavi poet ring. My shoes are earthshine from Kalnins. One word of warning: the ARC of my fabulous hair makes it completely inappropriate for crowded sims. Still worth it. Gorgeous hair.

Mountain Men

June 19, 2009 2 comments

Okay, we’re totally and demonstrably not mountain men, but we’re in front of some mountains in these shamelessly manipulated pictures.

Draco is bringing a little popstar flavor to his look, and it’s polished and edgy at the same time. The tangerine linen jacket brings a freshness to the SL standard ripped jeans; these from Zanzo are probably the only torn ones D ever wears. The linen jacket is available in our shop, and I have to recommend it for gents who are trying to pull together a more interesting and complete outfit than simply jeans and a t-shirt.

I’m a little geeky in my beige knickerbockers and bright green cardigan, but I’m enjoying the earthy colors and my awesome Kalnins Earthshine sandals. I haven’t seen those blogged anywhere and I can’t imagine why. The color change feature is fantastic and well worth the lindens. The knickerbockers come with a set of braces (suspenders, mind, not for the teeth) that I’m not wearing but they’re also very cute.

On Theodore:
hair – hair25 in dark brown by Colors
eyes – dark wood by Poetic Colors
skin – Jonas in sunkissed (with extra eyeliner yey) by Belleza
necklace – Jack Sparrow piece of 8 coin necklace by Eolande (freebie!)
cardigan – light style cardigan in green by Rooster
shirt – Chris shirt 03 green by SaWoDe
shorts – knickerbockers in beige by Muism
sandals – Earthshine by Kalnins

On Draco:
eyes: Endless Summer by Poetic Eyes
skin: Alex Light Normal by Subaru
hair: Jordan by House of Heart
jacket: nM Summer Breeze in Tangerine Jacket by NachtMusik
Shirt: Ramones T-shirt by Randall Roy (on xstreet)
pants: *Zanzo* Celestial Draconic jeans by Zanzo
shoes: BeReal // Linez Sneakers by BeReal
necklace: KOSH Quadrifarium Necklace by Kosh (free!)
Nails: Body Politik Gold Sparkle Manicure by The Body Politik

Sunglasses: Baker’s sunglass04 link

outfit of the day: 05-11-09 (and a rant)

May 14, 2009 1 comment

Draco was spending some time in our rooftop garden in our duchy, Caledon Cafall, and I decided I’d take some snaps of my outfit to share while I was up there with him. Everything was blooming owing to my virtual green thumb, and it suited the look perfectly. It’s a more summery look than the others I’ve posted, but still a definite statement.

For this look, I decided to break out my black knickerbockers from Muism (who also made my pose). Like the other Muism creations I own, they were a smidge pricey but of beautiful quality. Please, for the love of all that’s holy, don’t just wear bermudas or board shorts like everyone else ALL the time… or god help us all, denim cutoffs. I know, I know, it’s unpopular to be anti-shorts, and most of the blogs I read have the guys running around in half-pants quite proudly, but — and this is an important but — as a fashion statement, completely devoid of real life climate needs, shorts often scream sloppy to me. They call out to me, “Theo, look at us, we’re casual and fun and don’t give a fuck!” Theo appreciates casual and fun as much as could be expected, but what Theo appreciates more is style. In SL it’s not hurting you any to look superlative, so unless you just really want to suffer from the same lack of tail in SL that you do in RL, consider this edgy shorts alternative.

The skin I’m wearing is a favorite called Alpha by Zanzo in the Parthian shade, with heavy eyeliner. It’s a terrific skin… the nipples are a little too pink for my tastes, but aside from that, it’s perfect. I recommend it for its youthful yet manly look. It’s not as boyish as other Zanzo skins.

This is the Leon goatee from Discord Designs, heavily modified to suit me. I spent about twenty minutes adjusting it to be smaller and hipper and darker. It’s the only goatee I’ve found that I like.

I’m wearing the blue Jed shirt by Artilleri. It comes with all kinds of cute pockets and things that I’m not wearing, and it’s pretty stylish truth be told. However, this doesn’t mean I’m letting you off the hook for wearing Artilleri bowling shirts constantly. Bowling shirts? Really? ALL the time? This piece is worth owning though. The textures are lovely.

My jacket is from Valiant, and while it looks great, it does peeve me because on my lovely ass it reads “VALIANT”. I’m all for branding, but for the love of merciful fuck, my ass is not a billboard. It’s not too overt… a soft white on the bright blue… but still, if I’d seen in a photo that it was there, I probably wouldn’t have bought it. It’s a great jacket aside from that though.

The hair is Uncleweb Studios’ Lucio in coffee. Their coffee is probably my single most favorite hair shade in SL. It’s my perfect color. And to think, I almost didn’t buy it because the name was kind of douchey. D saw it and told me to try it on, and I’m helpless to do anything but obey as his sexiness compels me. I saw on another blog Uncleweb Studios rated as the top spot on the grid for men’s hair, and I believe it. (But, seriously, check out Colors too!)

Necklace is a freebie from Kosh, freebie shoes from Hoorenbeek, eyes are from poetic colors, and my shape is by me.

And now a rant. I know ranting tends to make people unpopular and I am prepared to have people shout at me offendedly and tell me how jellis and meen I am, but honestly I can’t keep my mouth shut about this. What am I so bothered about that my politeness fails me? I stumbled into this store exploring recently and before it finished rezzing, I was excited at the looks I was half-seeing… I recognized these blurry blobs from some of the best runways! Then, as it finished rezzing, I blinked, and blinked again, and then… I realized that it just wasn’t going to get any clearer. The fabric apparently really looked like that. I was so disappointed… I don’t know if they just badly photosource runways they got off style.com or what. They label each item as “inspired by” a great designer, but I’m not sure how much was inspiration and how much was copying. And you know what? I wouldn’t give a fuck if they weren’t charging designer prices for the clothes. I saw one Diesel inspired outfit going for 990L. How is this my business? Because I’m forced to look at the guys walking around the grid in their blurry wannabe couture, thinking they look ace because they’re wearing a Major Label Designer and took the linden hit to prove it. Oh bebes, you don’t look ace. You look like a sucker. Quality is always more important than the label, more important than the price, and more important than some blogger’s recommendation. Evaluate things for yourself. Don’t get snowed.
